Siquijor, the Voodoo Capital of the Philippines

After our fairly quick trip to the rice terraces of northern Luzon, we caught a bus, a plane and a ferry to the island of Siquijor, in the Visayas.  Much further south in the Philippines, we were pretty excited for the weather to be a bit warmer and to enjoy some beach time on this beautiful, peaceful little island.

As soon as we arrived it was pretty obvious to us that life here follows a much slower place than elsewhere.  So we spent 3 days driving around the island on our hired motorbike, simple enough a task when driving around the entire island only takes half a day.  We got lost once in the mountains, and spent several hours driving around with no real idea of where we were or how to get out.  But it was all an experience!

We stayed at the incredibly chilled out JJ's Backpackers, which also had a restaurant right on the beach front that served delicious meals in large portions. We both loved JJ's, met some great people here, and had everything right on our doorstep.

Along the way we found several adorable animals, some great food, lovely little beaches, gorgeous waterfalls, and beautiful scenery all round. Stellar holiday destination!

The Ifugao Rice Terrace Experience

So we were lucky enough to catch a delightfully joyous 12 hour night bus to the very north of the island of Luzon, in the Philippines, to visit the several thousand year old Ifugao rice terraces there .  Once we had recovered from the fairly horrendous journey we started exploring the small town of Banaue.

We visited Batad, where there are beautiful views of the rice terraces, and this is what we saw...

PETA Asia-Pacific Internship

I was lucky enough to be offered and internship at PETA Asia-Pacific's offices in Manila, the Philippines. It was such an incredible opportunity, and something I'd dreamt of for so long, that I couldn't wait to get on a plane and head to Manila for 2 months! Before you get worried I'm going to get all 'vegan' on you, I just wanted to share with you some of the adorable animals I met along the way.

Also, here is a link to my internship testimonial blog on PETA Asia-Pacific's website.

The last puppy in the photos is Blaize, he absolutely stole my heart.

If you want to do something great for these dogs and cats, and help to improve their lives then have a browse through The Pasay Pack and watch the video. That is what I spent my Saturday mornings doing in Manila, and I loved every single second of it.

Hope you enjoyed the cute doggies and cats!
